Douglas O’Donnell was appointed as acting IRS chief

Douglas O’Donnell, an IRS veteran, recently served as deputy commissioner for services and enforcement.

IRS Deputy Commissioner Douglas O’Donnell will take over as acting IRS commissioner when current IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig’s four-year term expires on November 12, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced today.

O’Donnell has worked for the IRS for over 36 years in various capacities. He was the commissioner of the IRS’s large business and international division for nearly six years before being named deputy commissioner for services and enforcement.

The search for a new IRS commissioner is currently underway under President Joe Biden. The Biden administration wants someone with extensive management and business experience to lead the agency, according to Bloomberg‘s report from last month.
